Budgie Collective HQ has been slammed recently. New DJs, upgrades to our servers, ground breaking web features (like our Track Browser, and Mix Crate) have had us questioning our sanity and consuming resources like a web radio version of an Aral Sea irrigation project. We have had some amazing wins, but now it’s time to let our hair down.
Coincidentally, the International Music Summit in Ibiza is drawing to a close this weekend, and as it does, the Spanish Island population heads towards critical mass, tripling in size, officially marking the season’s commencement. The third largest of Spain’s Balearic Islands comes to life over the European summer, with its population bursting from less than 100,000 to well over 300,000 as people look to leave the Continue reading →
How often have You been listening to a mix and thought – What is this track?
Welcome to the wonderful new world, full of interactive content made possible by modern technology and internet radio. We present to you, Mix Crate – Track Browser, the spoils of many late nights here at Budgie HQ.
Why do I care?
The dance world is made up of extended DJ mixes, which are a rich tapestry of content artistically constructed almost entirely from other peoples work. Track Browser is a pre-release deployment of a greater ‘Mix Crate’ project designed to allow you to Continue reading →
Has the time come for influential online dance music marketplace Beatport to up its game? Over two thousand people have reached out for an overhaul of the quintessential but identity-crisis-stricken progressive chart and release area.
Budgie Collective extends a big warm welcome to the Equal Dose crew, based out of Melbourne Australia. We will be showcasing all their periodical podcasts uninterrupted on high rotation. Juicy.
Bio: Equal Dose is the fusion of two closely aligned parties from the Melbourne dance scene; together we form a union of avid music enthusiasts with decades of experience behind us. Our music is electronic in nature but diverse in appeal with influences ranging from Minimal to Techno and Progressive to Trance.
Recently we brought our listeners attention to a pending US congressional vote on a proposed bill to somewhat regulate the NSAs sweeping, privacy invading, mass warrant-less email and phone tapping. The bill merely sought to require the most basic accountability for the surveillance, let alone stem the activity itself.
The debate and vote on the 27th of this month had been delayed and was eventually allocated only a single days deliberation at the eleventh hour. The result of which Continue reading →

We came across 1TrakMind almost by mistake while DJ fishing on the internets. A byte or two later on Soundcloud and we were clamouring to get hold of the man from Bangalore. Put simply his sets are, well …flawless. What played out was an inspiring first foray into India for the Budgie music machine.
1TrakMind, or Rahul Shankar to his friends, kindly agreed to share his 4 part Tech House Sessions with the Budgie family. But having just met, we were also seeking some context for the series. Here’s the result of our meet and greet…
We have added a custom built twitter app to our arsenal. The app, which works in the background, gives us the ability to keep you informed about all our currently playing sets. This has hooks into the very architecture of our streaming platform and works by sending tweets with DJ, Set and Genre information every time a new set plays on air.
We have set this up independent of our official twitter account so that we don’t spam users only wanting to catch our news tweets. If you want a piece of this, simply follow @BC_nowplaying on twitter and we’ll do all the work for you. That’s all there is to it.
